Individual Gold for Taizo Sugitani at the First FEI Asian Championships 2019
World class show jumper and mentor to many Asian riders, Taizo Sugitani, won Individual Gold on the final day of the FEI Asian Championships Pattaya 2019.
In show jumping individual competition, riders must compete in 5 rounds. Penalties from each round added up to the end, and the rider with the least penalties wins Gold. Taizo himself took the marvellous clear rounds from the very first day until the last day on his long time partner, the 12-year-old mare, Heroine de Muze, and finally bagged home Gold medal! Two riders from Hong Kong, Kenneth Cheng and Raene Leung, who also had solid clear rounds from day one also took home Silver and Bronze.
Taizo was the sole rider from Japan who participated in FEI Asian Championships Pattaya 2019 and won a historic Gold medal (out of 7 Gold medals) in this event. Taizo himself had made it to the podiums in Silver and Bronze position during his participation in Asian Games 2014 and 2018, but never before took Gold.
This then conclude the whole event. Congratulations again to all riders and safe trip home! See you again in two years!
